Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The traditional nursing curriculum is offered for qualified high school graduates, transfer and second degree students and licensed practical nurses. The nursing curriculum is divided into a lower and upper division, each of which is two years for traditional students. The lower division courses provide knowledge in natural sciences with a liberal arts focus. The upper division courses are in the nursing major. Completion of 56 hours is required to obtain Junior status for admission to upper division. All students must successfully complete the Pre-nursing courses prior to admission to the upper division. Students must have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 in their natural science courses (Math, Biology, and Chemistry) when the application to upper division is submitted. The minimum cumulative GPA requirement is 2.5; however, the competitive GPA has been 3.00 or above. The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is used to determine a student's readiness to begin the nursing course of study. A variety of health care facilities are used throughout the state to provide clinical experiences. These include healthcare facilities such as hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, health departments, in Durham, Wake, Orange, Chatham, Person, Vance-Granville and Franklin Counties.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is designed to be completed in four academic years. The course requirements in the BSN program are rigorous. In order to be competitive when applying for the upper division, students must be able to perform well academically while completing 16-17 semester hours (s.h.) each semester, or should consider attending summer school. Factors that may present special challenges to students include long distance commuting, family obligations, or financial need requiring more than 10-15 hours of work a week. If such factors apply to you, work with your academic advisor to formulate a plan of study that fits your personal situation.

2Nd Degree BSN
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program typically takes three years to complete for students with a previous Bachelor's Degree. The baccalaureate degree is made up of: General Education Core Requirements (GEC), which are waived for students with baccalaureate degrees from approved, accredited institutions; cognate requirements that are prerequisite for the upper level clinical nursing courses; School requirements; and free electives (if needed to total the second degree hours to 122 semester hours).

The BSN completion program for RN students has course offerings for both day and evening students. The length of time required to complete the program varies for each individual due to differences in educational backgrounds and the availability of course

Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The Pre-licensure BSN option is 4½ academic years in length and encompasses two phases. The first phase is comprised of 62 semester credit hours of lower-division work, including liberal arts and nursing prerequisites. The broad educational background in the physical, social, and behavioral sciences afforded by this phase provides the foundation for the nursing major. The second phase is comprised of 62 semester credit hours of upper-division work in the nursing major and is completed within the Department of Nursing. Taken during the junior and senior years, these courses are designed to prepare the baccalaureate nurses for practice in a variety of settings. Students are admitted to the baccalaureate nursing program at the upper division level. Lower division courses must be completed before beginning nursing courses. The first nursing courses begin in the second summer session preceding the junior year. The nursing curriculum includes both didactic and clinical experiences for students to develop a beginning level of competency and independence in the provision of quality professional nursing services, across the life span, for individuals, families, groups, and communities. Integrated throughout the nursing curriculum are concepts and skills most critical to the delivery of professional nursing services to culturally diverse rural populations. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing will be awarded to students who successfully complete both phases of the requirements for the degree. Degree recipients will then be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensure examination administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

RN-BSN
The RN-BSN completion option is designed for registered nurses who wish to earn the baccalaureate nursing degree. Building on competencies attained by the registered nurse, the program extends the student’s knowledge, skills, attitudes, and scope of practice for expanded career opportunities, enhances personal and professional satisfaction, and develops a foundation for further study in graduate nursing education.

Master of Science in Nursing
The MSN program provides registered nurses, with a baccalaureate degree, with an opportunity to build expertise in a specialized area of practice while enhancing their skills in theory and research in professional practice. The degree requires 39 semester
