Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The Traditional Undergraduate (or baccalaureate) Nursing Program offers the Bachelor of Science degree (BS) after the successful completion of four years of nursing curriculum. This program track is designed for freshman entry level candidates, however, transfer applicants may also apply. The program prepares graduates to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nursing Practice (NCLEX-RN). The baccalaureate nursing program prepares the learner as a generalist to practice within the ethical, legal framework of professional nursing. We believe graduates should be prepared to provide therapeutic and culturally congruent care in a variety of settings, to meet the current and future needs of global communities. Graduates are educated to become consumers of research, work collaboratively as a member of the health care team, and utilize emerging new technologies. The following concepts are essential to baccalaureate nursing education: culturally congruent care, research, professional role, and leadership. The generalist role of baccalaureate nursing education is the foundation for specific roles of graduate nursing education.

This Nursing Program is an upper division "on-line" curriculum designed for registered nurses in the state of Maryland who are graduates of associate degree or diploma programs. New graduates are considered for admission pending success on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).

Candidates enter the program having completed all general education requirements and enroll into full-time study of nursing courses. Nursing entrance examinations are not required! See admission criteria and progression plan link for curriculum details. Candidates are admitted each summer as indicated on the progression plan!

Master of Science in Nursing
The Master of Science in Nursing program prepares professional nurses for advanced practice roles and for doctoral study. Graduate education provides the student with opportunities to develop expertise and specialized knowledge in the care of clients and populations. The graduate curriculum incorporates evidence-based practice that enables nurses to participate in health policy development, research, health promotion, and management, with emphasis on diverse and vulnerable populations. We believe that the advanced practice nursing roles are integral to meeting the current and future health needs of society. With over 600 hours of clinical practice, family nurse practitioner, and nurse educator graduates are eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center national certification examination. After two years of fulltime faculty experience, nursing education graduates are eligible to take the National League for Nursing examination.

The Macqueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing (MGW) was a hospital-based diploma nursing education program affiliated with The Memorial Hospital at Easton, MD Inc. since 1907. In 1996, an advisory committee was formed to strategically address the school's future. The mission driving the strategic planning process was to offer education for Professional nursing within an institution of higher learning that met the needs of potential students, health care employers and consumers. When all data was analyzed, it became evident that MGW should partner with Chesapeake College and transition itself from a hospital-based diploma Nursing Program to an Associate of Science in Nursing Degree Program.
